In order to succeed with EMR implementation in your medical practice, it is important to reduce the errors and risks that may be associated with EMR implementation.
Avoid Problems with Change Management
It is important that when you are planning to implement EMR systems in your medical practice, you should ensure that your team of doctors and the other administrative staff should be well prepared to adapt to the changes that are expected to happen after EMR implementation. You should realize that older physicians at your practice may have problems related to adapting to the technology. Therefore, you should prepare them and train them so that they can cope up and adapt to the technological changes.
Ensure Able Leadership and Commitment of Your Team
There should be someone to champion the EMR project at your practice. This leader will be important in order to instill the commitment in different team members with respect to the EMR implementation project.
Have a Clear Purpose
The future goals should be carefully understood from the very beginning of an EMR implementation project. The reason for the same is that if future goals for the system are not understood, it will be difficult to understand the chances of formulating a good plan. The delusional expectations may also reduce the chances of the survival of a project. You should have clear objectives in terms of what your practice wants the EMR system to do. You should be completely sure of what you want for your practice.
Ensure Immaculate Planning and Appropriate Implementation
You should either ensure to have a dedicated IT person on-board with the project or an outsourced firm who should be assisting you with the implementation plan. The assistance offered by the IT person will be in terms of training, design and at various stages of implementation. You should also have some work breakdown structure in place in order to ensure that the work is on track. It is also important to have a live simulation day before moving forward with the actual implementation. You should also be planned and the system must be able to change and should be able to address problems early. These should be addressed before the staff members are demotivated. It is important that your staff should work with a common vision so that the chances of success are greatly increased.
